Complimentary Therapies. Mind in Bexley believes that everyone has the right to the optimum level of health and wellbeing that each individual person can achieve either for themselves or with the help and support of others.

There is a multiplicity of support structures and initiatives available and by experience we know that different things work for different people which is why we try to engage as widely as possible with the rich and varied types of help that can be made available to people.

Currently we have partnership agreements with qualified practitioners of Reflexology and Reiki are able to offer access to these therapies to users of our services.

Reflexology. Is a complimentary therapy based on the idea of whole body healing, the philosophy encompasses mind, body and spirit and the belief that balancing all three aspects is necessary for healing to take place.

It dates back to at least 2,500 BC and can be traced in Egyptian and Far Eastern cultures as well as Europe and the Americas. It can be used alongside conventional medicine to help to overcome the effects of stress, ease distress, pain and fear in people.

It involves manipulating reflex points on the feet which are deemed to be associated with particular parts of the body. www.reflexology.org

Reiki. Is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy and applied to a system of natural healing developed from ancient teaching by Dr Mikao Usui, who died in 1926. The principle of Reiki is that it flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

The Reiki practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively either on or just above the body in a sequence of positions for several minutes channelling the flow of energy to restore balance. It can be used alongside orthodox and complimentary forms of treatment. www.reikiassociation.org.uk
