Education and Training
The entire Voluntary Sector has a major role to play in health promotion this includes providing training for workers inside and outside health care services who are likely to come into contact with people who are experiencing mental distress.
Mind in Bexley actively engages with this agenda by providing training about mental health and mental health awareness.
Mind in Bexley also provides training on welfare rights issues and benefits.
Education
Mind in Bexley provides free educational courses to people who are experiencing or have experienced mental distress. All our courses are aimed at increasing independence, tackling social exclusion and empowering service users. Currently the following courses are on offer at Mind in Bexley:
I...Can
The I..Can course has an emphasis on developing life skills that are useful in a range of settings. It developed in response to the changing needs of Service Users in the 21st Century.
Living Not Stressing
Living not Stressing is an Anxiety Management Course based on CBT principles. Unlike the CBT programme, the course is open to everyone as there is no referral needed. The course runs for six weeks on demand. The work is not assessed therefore there is no anxiety provoking exams or projects to complete. Just a willingness to turn up and take part!
Include Me
Include Me is a new course based on the current emphasis of the Social and Recovery Model of difference. The course teaches service users, volunteers and staff to value diversity and recognise the stigma and prejudices faced by different groups of people.
Safety Around Food
The Safety Around Food Course was developed in response to the need to provide Food Hygiene training to our volunteers. The course was expanded to include service users after it proved so successful and popular with volunteers. The course runs continuously with students being able to join at any point.
